Remember the question i posted with the survey about black women?
I am a 33 year old white woman.

1) How do you feel rap and R%26amp;b porteys black women?

I think the majority of R%26amp;B portrays women in general as sex-objects, with no value except as entertainment.

2) What are some positive stereotypes of black women?

Strong and family oriented.

3)What are some negative stereotypes of black women?

Having children without being married.

4) Where do you hear these stereotypes of black women?

Mostly from my parents (negative ones) and friends and books and articles (positive ones.)

5)Which stereotypes do youu hear most of?

Honestly, I don't hear much stereotype these days. I live in a very racially mixed community, and I don't think people here even see black and white. Where I lived before, I was warned to not go to the "black side" of the city alone any time of day or night.

6)How often do you listen to rap and R%26amp;B? Do you enjoy it? If so, why?

I rarely listen to rap or R%26amp;B. I like some classics, and there are a few good new songs, but I only listen if the message is positive.

7) If you are a black female, how do you feel about the negative stereotypes?

I am not a black woman.

8)Do you think the concept of rap and R%26amp;B has changed over the years since it began? If so, how?

Rap used to be poetry, now most of what I've heard is not beautiful by any stretch of the imagination. Classic R%26amp;B was often about love, life, and sometimes sex. I guess R%26amp;B has not changed so much, but with the invention of the music video, it has moved more toward sex and less about love and life.

9What images usually come to your mind when you think of rap and/or R%26amp;B music videos?

Disgusting images of women dressed as prostitutes strutting about an angry man. I don't generally watch music videos.
Reply:1) mostly negative...but there are the few good songs that dont

2) some of them take care of business

3) whores and hoes....easy...welfare

4) places

5)welfare and the hoes

6) alot...but i listen to alot of other types of music 2......i like the eat...sometimes the words...

7) ive witnessed alot of them right before my eyes.....they are wat they are....stereotypes...every race has them.....and some people follow them......it can be a bit irratating sometime but thats just the way the world works

8) yes and no....rap didnt just start cussing and calling girls hoes just yesterday......but rap has just become about mainly one thing..negative stuff.....and it may sound cool...but once u turn it off u have to realize that its just a song..and the rappers are just doing there job

9) black girls in bikinis dancing aroung some cars with rims on them.....grillz....(i do have one-but i dnt wear it out the house)....lotz of carz

like i said...every race has them....some good some bad...its up t each person what they fit under...or not to be under one at all......if u wanna wear khakis and tight shirts..no matter what race u are.....thats fine and its your choice..........if u wanna wear baggy jeans and long shirts....or mohawks and spiked jeans...no matter what race you are its ur choice.......but if u shoot up people becasue of the color of their shirt....now thats just stupid....or blow up your office building becasue you got fired...thats just crazy
Reply:1) How do you feel rap and R%26amp;b porteys black women?

I dissapprove of the way that most R%26amp;B and Rap videos display black and other races of women as sex objects.

2) What are some positive stereotypes of black women?

Black women are strong and have high self-esteem.

3)What are some negative stereotypes of black women?

Black women are promiscuous, loud, obnoxious, ignorant, and obese.

4) Where do you hear these stereotypes of black women?

On-line, in blacksploitation films, from people of other races, and black men.

5)Which stereotypes do youu hear most of?

Black women are loud and obnoxious.

6)How often do you listen to rap and R%26amp;B? Do you enjoy it? If so, why? I listen to R%26amp;B nearly everyday. I am more selective about my hip hop because much of today's hip hop is commercial or exploitave of the black race.

7) If you are a black female, how do you feel about the negative stereotypes? I hate them.

8)Do you think the concept of rap and R%26amp;B has changed over the years since it began? If so, how? Yes. Before hip hop was an outlet for African Americans. It had meaning and it gave our urban blacks a voice and something to relate to. Now it is very commercial and used more to sell products or a certain lifestyle. R%26amp;B has stayed pretty much the same but it isn't as great as Motown sound.

9. What images usually come to your mind when you think of rap and/or R%26amp;B music videos? Bling, Cadillacs, and slutty girls.

Female, early twenties, black
Reply:AGE 53 multiracial female

1, As sex objects

2. Can sing, cook, and are strong willed

3. Are hard to please, self centered, demanding, touchy

4. Mostly from black men

5. Hard to please, demanding

6. seldom...most of it no because of the lyrics.

7. Not black

8. yes....was not so vulgar and violent, was more about social issues not sex.

9. Volumtious beautiful women, scantily clad
Reply:1) I think it sends the wrong idea out. As you can see there are uneducated peolpe on here who talk about people in a negative way.

2) I think one is that black women dont play.

3)They have bad attitudes and they have too much drama

4)Well right now on here.

5)We have bad attitudes.

6)I dont listen to hip hop that much, but Ilike listening to r%26amp;b.

7)I just hate hearing them.

8)Yes becuz back then it was all about fun, now you just hear bleeps throughout the song.

9)I think of a chdeating man.(mostly becuz of Beyonce,lol).
Reply:I am 34, white male

1. As sex objects and promiscuous.

2.Occassionally as strong , single parents who take care of their children despite stuggling.

3.Promiscuous, scandalous, loud, angry, and welfare users, lots of kids.

4. TV, other white people, as well as some black people too.

5. Loud, angry, promiscuous.

6. I pretty much only listen to rap and r%26amp;b. Yes I enjoy it. The beats are tight and the music speaks more to how I grew up than most white music even though i'm white.

7. white male not bfm, so can't answer.

8. The content has definitely changed, because when i was commin up, it was all about getting the party rockin and political and social awareness. NWA started the gangsta vibe and then in the mid 90's and especially now, its all about booty, bling, dope, and rims. When thinking of videos obviously big booties , gold grills, and rims come to mind.
